My fascination with magic began when I was a teenager. In fact, the first book I ever chose to read was about magic, and it opened the door to a world that would ultimately become my life's work.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 11 and, like many people who find themselves different from their peers, I experienced bullying at school. Magic gave me something to focus on, something I could excel at, and ultimately something that would shape my future.

What began as a fascination became a passion, and that passion became a career spanning more than 33 years.

Learning my craft

My journey has taken me from working in one of the world's most famous magic shops to performing regularly in a nightclub for seven years.

Those nightclub years were an extraordinary education. Performing close-up magic in a busy, unpredictable environment taught me far more than simply how to perform tricks. I learnt how to engage with people, read an audience, adapt to different personalities and, perhaps most importantly, recognise when to speak and when to listen.

These are skills that have stayed with me throughout my career.

I have been fortunate enough to perform for members of the Royal Family, celebrities, businesses and audiences around the world. I've also worked extensively behind the scenes, creating and consulting on magic for television and live performances.

In 2025, I was part of the team nominated for a BAFTA Craft Award for our work on Miracles.

It's an achievement I'm enormously proud of, particularly because so much of my work involves finding solutions to problems that initially appear impossible.

More than just magic

I've always believed that being a good magician involves far more than knowing how a trick works.

It's about understanding people.

Anyone can learn a trick, but knowing how to present it, when to perform it and how to make someone feel genuinely involved is something that takes years to develop.

My performances combine original magic, sleight of hand, psychological misdirection and mind reading, but the most important part is always the people experiencing it.

I don't use camera tricks or stooges to manufacture reactions. What you see is what happens, and the reactions are genuine.

My friend Steven Frayne, better known as Dynamo, once said to me:

"You don't do magic, you do miracles."

It's an incredibly flattering compliment, particularly coming from someone I've known and worked with for so many years.

But for me, the greatest compliment is still the look on someone's face when they experience something they simply cannot explain.

Standing up for what matters

My career hasn't been without its challenges.

I achieved the highest membership grade within The Magic Circle, becoming a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star.

My association with the organisation eventually ended following a dispute involving my treatment and concerns about discrimination.

That experience reinforced something I have always believed: everyone deserves to be treated fairly and with respect.

It also led me to raise wider concerns about the limited legal protections available to volunteers under equality legislation.

These principles remain important to me, both personally and professionally.

Why I do what I do

After more than three decades, people sometimes ask whether I ever get tired of performing the same magic.

The answer is simple. I don't perform for the trick. I perform for the reaction.

Every audience is different. Every person brings something new, and even when I've performed an effect hundreds of times, the experience for the person watching can be completely unique.

That's what keeps magic exciting for me.

I also believe that choosing an entertainer should never feel like a gamble.

Whenever practical, I'm happy to meet prospective clients and demonstrate my magic. It gives you the opportunity to see what I do, ask questions and decide whether I'm the right person for your event.

Of course, nothing truly compares to experiencing magic live.

Whether I'm entertaining guests at a wedding, bringing people together at a corporate event or performing at a private celebration, my aim is always the same:

To create genuine moments of astonishment that people will remember long after the event has finished.
